History of Kappa Alpha Pi
On October 8th, 2007, Kappa Alpha Pi was started by a united group of like minded undergraduate pre-law students at the University of Michigan. Formerly associated with the Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity International, these high-achieving students disaffiliated in favor of the safety of its members and their close-knit community. Kappa Alpha Pi, as of Fall 2024, has 41 dynamic and respected chapters at institutions of higher learning all across the nation. In the Spring of 2018, the general body, along with the Executive Board Elect, of the University of California, San Diego chapter of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity came to the conclusion that remaining affiliated with Phi Alpha Delta, International (the international governing body of our fraternity) is not in the best interest of our organization. Under the governance of Phi Alpha Delta, International, the sanctity of our brotherhood was jeopardized and our autonomy was severely limited. Therefore, the majority of our members formally voted to disaffiliate our chapter and re-charter as Kappa Alpha Pi. There are currently Kappa Alpha Pi chapters at the University of California, Berkeley, the University of California, Los Angeles, Cornell University, and many more reputable universities. The main goal of this transition is to preserve the resilient and intimate pre-law community at UCSD, and grow further than the Phi Alpha Delta International restrictions allowed.
Declaration of Purpose
The purpose of the Pre-Law Chapter of Kappa Alpha Pi Fraternity at UC San Diego shall be to provide interested students with the opportunity to learn about the Law School application process, Law School, and the profession of law. This goal will be achieved by providing the membership with the opportunity to participate in events focused on law and service designed to help the community of law. This fraternity will also provide its members access to people in the area of law. Above all, this fraternity and its membership will strive to create a fellowship in the form of a fraternal bond between members of the organization, thereby providing the members with personal experiences to aid their search for information about law and law-related areas.
Four suits. One standard.
Each suit is a section you can customize: swap icons, rename pillars, and add links to your real events or resources.
♣ Fratnernalism
The pre-law community at UCSD is relatively small, hence it can be helpful to be surrounded by other people with the same interests as you. However, the relationships built among our members transcend that. Our members have found friends that will last a lifetime in this chapter. We take pride in the small, close-knit community that we have created and fostered.
♠ Law School Preparation
Many of our members came into college unsure about pursuing a career in law. During their time in the fraternity, our members reflect on their career path and ask themselves if law school is the right choice for them. Some of our members decide that it is, and some decide that it isn’t. Some of our alumni are pursuing careers in the law, public health, policy, education, and more. Furthermore, our members have exclusive access to discounted LSAT prep courses from our sponsors. The chapter also holds law school tours for our members. In addition, our members have access to our extensive and still-growing alumni network.
♥ Alumni Network
Our alumni network has grown significantly since we chartered the chapter in 2018. We have alumni that attend the most prestigious law schools across the country and hold positions in both the private and public sectors. All of our members have the opportunity to connect with alumni that are going down the same path as them.
♦ Professional Development
A member’s first quarter in the fraternity is where they participate in the Leadership Program. This program focuses on professional development skills that will be useful for any career, regardless of whether a member continues to pursue a career in law. The program hones in on our members’ networking skills, perfect their resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIns. Additionally, the chapter has connections to attorneys and other legal professionals that are useful for many of our members.
